Frequently asked questions
What image information can this tool show?
When the original file contains it, ViewerPix can show EXIF, camera and lens details, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, capture date, GPS coordinates, image dimensions, color profile, and some XMP, IPTC, and software fields. What appears depends on the image format, source device, and data stored in that file; a blank field does not mean the viewer failed.
Why does my image have little or no EXIF data?
Screenshots, images saved again after editing, and files shared through social, messaging, or cloud services often have metadata removed or rewritten. An original photo taken directly with a phone or camera is more likely to retain complete data.
Can EXIF or metadata prove that a photo is authentic or unedited?
No. Metadata is useful file context, but it can be removed, edited, or regenerated. Do not use EXIF alone to prove that a photo is authentic or to verify its capture time or location.
Are GPS coordinates always accurate, and what should I check before sharing?
Not necessarily. GPS values only reflect coordinates stored in the file, which may be absent, outdated, or edited. Before sharing an original image, copied metadata, or a JSON export, check for latitude, longitude, and altitude so you do not expose a home, school, or travel location by mistake.
Why is the capture date different from the time I remember?
The camera clock may have been wrong, the time zone may not have been updated after travel, or editing software may have rewritten dates. Capture time, file creation time, and file modification time are different fields, so compare them separately.
Can this tool remove EXIF or GPS data?
No. This page only reads metadata and does not alter the original image. Viewing, copying fields, or downloading JSON will not remove EXIF. Use a dedicated metadata-removal tool before sharing an image if you need to remove location, device, or capture information.
Can the downloaded JSON contain sensitive information?
Yes. The JSON export includes data that was successfully read from the image and may include GPS coordinates, device model, software name, capture time, or other raw tags. Review the export before sending it to anyone, especially for location and device details.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Supported image processing runs locally in your browser. Third-party decoder code may be loaded only when a format needs it, but your image itself stays on your device.
