Your images stay in your browser

Image decoding and preview happen on your device. ViewerPix does not need to upload your images to an application server just to display them.

Frequently asked questions

Will ViewerPix change, compress, or overwrite my original image?

No. Image Viewer creates a preview only in the current browser. Zoom, Fit, rotation, background, and fullscreen do not write to, compress, or replace the original file. Preview state is not saved after you refresh or close the page.

Why did rotating the image not rotate the file? Can I download the rotated version?

Rotation changes only the current preview. Image Viewer does not edit the file or create a rotated download. Use the Resize & Crop tool when you need a permanent rotation, crop, or saved image.

Am I seeing original pixels or a smaller website preview?

ViewerPix shows the source image dimensions and file size. Fit changes only the on-screen display size and does not resample the image; 100% shows the image at its original pixel scale.

Why does the image look blurry after I zoom in?

At more than 100%, the browser enlarges the existing pixels, so edges and text can look soft. That is display scaling, not a new compression pass by ViewerPix.

Can I open several images, and what happens when I switch?

Yes. Add several supported images and use thumbnails; with more than one image, the left and right arrow keys also move through them. When you switch images, the viewer resets to its fit view, initial zoom, and unrotated preview.

How can I check a transparent PNG?

Transparent pixels have no fixed color. Use the background control to switch among checkerboard, dark, and light backgrounds to inspect transparent areas and semi-transparent edges. Changing the background never changes the image.

Will animated GIFs play, and can I inspect or export a frame?

A GIF displays and plays when the browser can decode it. Image Viewer cannot currently step through frames, pause an animation, extract a frame, or export a GIF or individual frame.

Will every HEIC, HEIF, TIFF, AVIF, or other special image open?

No. ViewerPix attempts common variants, but compatibility depends on file encoding, size, and browser. Multi-page TIFF currently uses only the first page. If a file will not open, converting it to PNG or JPG is often the most reliable fallback.

Why can a file under 100 MB still fail to open?

The viewer also limits images to about 80 million pixels to avoid exhausting browser memory. A damaged file, unsupported encoding, or a special HEIC or TIFF decoder failure can also prevent opening.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Supported image processing runs locally in your browser. Third-party decoder code may be loaded only when a format needs it, but your image itself stays on your device.

Private browser processing

ViewerPix processes supported images on your device. Your image files are not uploaded to a ViewerPix application server for this task.
